The Summer I Turned Pretty: A Review

I’m sure almost each one of you reading this article has watched the famous movie series “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”. From Lara Jean’s secret love letters to Noah Centineo becoming an internet sensation, this film franchise was all things good. As I write this article, listening to “I Like me Better” by Lauv, I recall the moment I first heard about “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. Knowing that another Jenny Han book trilogy was releasing soon on Amazon Prime Video was probably the best news of the hour for a YA genre-lover like me.

So, the plot goes like this — Laurel Conklin and Susannah Fisher have been best friends forever and spending the summer at the Fishers’ is a tradition for the two families. Isabel Belly Conklin has known the two Fisher brothers, Jeremiah and Conrad, her whole life. But now she has turned 16 and things aren’t the same anymore. The show takes us through Belly’s friendships, relationships, and her dealing with changes altogether. This summer brings in lots of drama and romance for the protagonist, Belly. Her brother, Stephen, is occupied with college admissions and the parents too are going through their fair share of drama. Set in the romantic backdrop of a memorable summer, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is bound to make you go head-over-heels.

The coming-of-age innocence of this show is what made me like it so much. The clothes and fashion of the characters is definitely something worthy of your summer Pinterest board. What fans have been loving the most about it is the fact that not many drastic changes can be seen in the show as compared to the books.

It is a love triangle or maybe a quadrilateral (YOU CAN’T FORGET CAM-CAMERON!) at its best. Belly has always loved Conrad or is it the idea of Conrad that has her crushing on him since they were kids? Watch the show on Amazon Prime Video to find out!
