A few years back, the tiny-tots would have been excited to watch their favourite cartoons on channels like Hungama, Disney and Pogo. Our grandparents and parents would have watched their evening soap operas, and the youngsters of the house would have eagerly waited for their favourite artist to perform on the talent shows hosted by channels like Zee TV and Sony. Back then, it felt as if our lives would have been colourless without these channels. But now, with times changing, such shows are available at our fingertips. That is only possible due to Over-The-Top (OTT) Platforms.
OTT Platforms have gained significant popularity, especially during the lockdown. It became clear that the human mind was searching for recreation amid boredom, which gave OTT Platforms the perfect opportunity to widen their audience. They made their content accessible to viewers by introducing various payment packages and plans that suit almost any pocket. The movies and series on these platforms were also made available in several languages. The only requirement to access these platforms is smart and compatible devices with a strong internet connection. Soon, leading OTT Platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ HotStar became a staple of every household.
The year 2021 began with the second wave of the virus, and once again, we were confined to our houses. But this time, we were prepared with our lockdown survival list and needless to say, OTT Platforms topped the list for many of us. They have, most definitely, revolutionized the face of the entertainment industry.
True, OTT Platforms cannot replicate the complete experience of watching a movie in a cinema theatre. Still, they have managed to gain viewers who would now prefer series over movies. These platforms have helped us manage the surge of the initial lockdown and will continue to play a prominent role in the current one.
