99% of the people are relying on fast fashion brands. Fast fashion has three main components from the consumer’s perspective: it’s cheap, it’s trendy and it’s disposable; shoppers want to update their wardrobe and make it decent in every season. From a business perspective, fashion’s growth depends on higher production and lower production costs. They produce clothes in mass production but they sell them at a very cheap price.

90% of the world’s clothing is produced in low and middle-income countries. Each day, 40 million workers endure poor working conditions and earn unfair wages to assemble garments. They cannot make enough money to meet their basic needs. The majority of garment workers are women from the ages of 18 to 24, a number of countries have been implicated in both forced labor and child labor including Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey, Vietnam and others according to a 2018 U.S. Department of Labor Report. Remains the major concerns for garment industry workers; Workers regularly breathe in dust and fiber from the textiles due to poor air-flow in working spaces. This causes garment industry workers to suffer from lung diseases, cancer and other reproductive issues.

Fast fashion production requires a considerable amount of energy and resources, while it depends on toxic fabric dyes and other chemicals that contaminate fresh water. Fashion produces tenth of the world’s carbon emissions. According to Levi Strauss & Co, producing a pair of jeans emits as much carbon as driving a car for 80 miles. It has also been found that many companies burn their unsold garments to eliminate the discount market of their clothing such as Burberry.
Fast fashion brands are responsible for 40% of the environmental pollution. Instead of shopping from these brands, we need to try to support small businesses to buy your products. Small businesses are very reasonable and they put in a lot of effort in selling their products. It's more virtuous to purchase from them rather than supporting fast fashion brands in polluting our environment.
