Summer may be over, but love isn’t; Shawn Mendes is making sure of that! He released his new single and here is what we think about it.
Shawn Mendes released a song titled “Summer of Love” on 20th August 2021. The song was produced by Tainy and the official music video was filmed in Mallorca, Spain.

The video is a montage of the singer-songwriter reminiscing the “summer of love” he spent with his girlfriend of two years. In my opinion, the video shows a version of the singer when he is at the peak of happiness; a version of him rejoicing in the happiest moments of life.
The video directed by Matty Peacock perfectly encapsulates the very essence of summer. Throughout the video, we see Shawn Mendes living it up vacation-style with his friends: diving into the sea, hanging out on his boat, driving around, and raising toasts in nightclubs. The stunning backdrop further adds to the whole aesthetic, with its lush green mountains and pink-tinted sunsets. This genuine feel-good song is a perfect addition to your summer playlist.

The song was released, rather sneakily, soon after the singer turned twenty-three. He hinted at the release of his new single on his Twitter account when he wore a sweatshirt displaying the title of his song while playing a couple of its guitar chords. The post was captioned “sol”, which translates to “sun” in Spanish.
Though there is no appearance of Camila Cabello in the music video, it is easy to deduce that the song talks about her. The bridge of the song, that is the second verse, alludes to his girlfriend of two years:
“Meditation and tequila / Calling you my señorita”
In an interview on The Pulse with SiriusXM's Ron Ross, the singer revealed that he was inspired by the time he spent with his girlfriend in Miami during the Coronavirus Pandemic. “Time was kind of stopped and it just felt like we were kids again, you know?" “We were able to just find ourselves and it was a beautiful kind of time. And that's what I wrote the song about." The lyrics ‘and for a couple of months, it felt like we were 18’ specifically refers to this.
During the pandemic, we saw a lot of Shawn and Camila content, thanks to the paparazzi. They went on normal couple walks in pajamas. No matter how ordinary, it was their “delicate daydream” and that’s what the music video in itself is a daydream.

It is no secret that, at the age of twenty-three, Shawn Mendes has made himself a bona fide figure in the music industry, achieving a stable career and a relationship (that is just precious). We’re all secret admirers of him and you can’t disagree with me.
