Gigi and Zayn parenting Khai

Gigi Hadid opens up about her parenting methods as she dives into a whole new world of motherhood.

Gigi and Zayn confirmed the birth of their daughter Khai, on 23rd September 2020. Since then, the first-time parents have been going on little adventures with their daughter like hiking in the woodlands, visiting aquariums in Coney Island, and museums in New York City.

In fact, the entire family has been spending quality time with Khai. Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, shared a sweet snap of her morning, which was spent meditating with her grand-daughter:

Gigi also revealed that Khai is quite fond of Bollywood music, and that they often sing Arabic nursery rhymes together.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Gigi opened up about her anxieties surrounding parenthood. She revealed that there were days where she found herself wondering, “Am I good enough to be a mother?” So, she started journaling as a method to cope with her worries. She divided her thoughts into two separate journals. “I had one journal that I called my good journal and one journal that I called my bad journal. They weren’t that literal, but one was more for the memories for Khai”, Gigi said. She also plans on giving her daughter the journal one day to familiarize her with all the experiences she went through.

Nonetheless, something was still bugging Gigi and that was her daughter’s privacy. She took to Twitter to post a touching request directed to the paparazzi, which read, “As our baby grows up, we have to realize that we can’t protect her from everything the way we wanted to and could when she was smaller”. “She doesn’t understand why she’s covered in the city, or what I’ve wanted to protect her from. I also want her to see the most amazing city in the world and the beautiful and diverse people that walk down the streets of NYC… that is, without the stress of the media circus that comes with parents who are public figures,” she added.

She continued her request to the media by asking them to blur Khai’s face in photos. “I know it’s an extra effort – but as a new mum, I just want the best for my baby, as all parents do… and I hope this can continue the conversation to protect minors in the media, even if they come from a public family.” Gigi and Zayn themselves, have always hidden Khai’s face on their social media accounts.

Gigi and Zayn also talked about raising their daughter in a multi-ethnic household. It was a subject that both Gigi and Zayn discussed a lot because of their own experiences growing up mixed. "It's something that's really important to us," Gigi explains. "But it's also something that we first experienced ourselves because both of our parents have their own heritage."

In an interview with radio host Sean Valentine, Zayn talked about adjusting to life as a father. “It’s a really different pace of life, but it’s been really easy to adjust and that’s the most surprising.”

Parenting is always easier with the right person, and Khai has two amazing role models as parents; what’s more beautiful than that?
